Volunteer

Shake off your “textile amnesia”!
Come and get involved with Common Cloth!

We are a small not-for-profit organisation. As well as running regular crochet socials, gardening volunteer opportunities and free to access workshops we are working tirelessly behind the scenes to secure funding and keep the wheels of a business turning. We have a range of corresponding volunteer roles and welcome your support with communications, event planning, fundraising, volunteer coordination and much more.

Starting in April 2026 we will be holding regular Volunteer Sessions at Northern Roots in Oldham and at Forever Fields in Chorlton, Manchester. This is your chance to join us and learn about growing plants for fibre and for natural dyeing in a hands on way. Come and break the ground and sow seeds together.

Jo from Common Cloth is also involved with the garden volunteers at The Bird Box in Whalley Range, Manchester most Friday mornings during term time. The micro flax and dye garden is a small part of the safe, accessible garden space that has been created for families and tailored to the needs of babies toddlers and young children.

The new Flax and Dye Garden hosted by St. John’s Centre in Old Trafford is gradually taking shape. This has come about as part of an age-friendly project funded by Trafford Community Collective. The garden is a wonderful community resource. We are looking for volunteers to continue nurturing this space beyond the Local Colour in Old Trafford project which is now drawing to a close.

Are you a resident in the Manley Park area of Whalley Range? We have a micro dye garden on Cromwell Avenue and are looking for more people to join us caring for the garden and organising community wellbeing activities using what we grow, e.g. flax, woad and a host of natural dye plants.
